In this week's podcast, we're going to take a quiz to test your knowledege of the difference between the vowels /i / and /I/. We're going to test your ability to hear the difference between words like
"sick" and "seek." Being able to hear and say the subtle difference between these two vowel sounds
is an important part of speaking English clearly and correctly.
Mastering this vowel distinction can be quite challenging. Most languages have vowels which are similar to these vowels
but not exactly the same. But with the right amount of practice and training, you're going to be able to pronounce the diffrerence correctly, just like a native speaker would.
Before you take this quiz, I recommend that you listen to podcasts #2 and #3. Podcasts #2 and #3 teach you how to pronounce /i/ and /I/ distinctly and correctly, in full detail.
You can also find instruction and lots of training exercises on my English pronunciation course in mp3 - Best Accent Training.
Vowel Quiz: /i/ vs. /I/
You're going to hear three words. The words sound very similar. The only difference between them is the vowel sound they contain. Some words will contain /i/ and other words will contain /I/.
Write down the words in the order that you hear them.
First, let's review the two vowel sounds:
